It seems that the great British weather will eventually get warmer and nicer. There is still hope.
So there will be a time for barbecuing and taking one’s feet out of one’s socks. When this happens, there is nothing better than having your garden ready for it. And we need furniture to sit and enjoy the great outdoors, don’t we?
I have followed Patricia Urquiola‘s career for quite a while now. Based in Milan, Urquiola is a Spanish architect and designer. She has produced stunning pieces for many prestigious brands, like the Spanish Kettal and the Italian B&B Furniture. This last one is one of my favourites, and I can only dream when I visit their showroom in London.
I like the simplicity and total effectiveness of the pieces. The most iconic pieces of outdoor furniture you will find at B&B are Patricia’s designs. I have chosen a few examples:
Using advanced materials, this furniture challenges the old fashion plastic tradition. The fabrics and textures are as impressive as any indoor pieces.
A recent and impressive project is the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona’s Paseo de Gràcia. The rooftop, the lobby and the rooms are a true heaven for any design geek. The trees and the city background are the perfect setting for the Canasta’13 collection.
Another iconic piece is this new version of Emmanuelle’s chair. This is a classic with more than a twist.
Last year I had the opportunity to see the last collaboration with Louis Vuitton. This swing is made of knitted leather and I can’t help it but think of it as some kind of kinky/fetish device. In any case a very nice one.
