For those of you who don’t know it yet, Tenerife is much more than the old beach holiday destination that people associate with its name. You will find sun and beaches and amazing resorts which are amongst the most luxurious in Europe though.

But the island offers so much more. For instance, the city of La Laguna, which is UNESCO heritage site, has a vibrant restaurant scene and offers beautiful scenery for walks and a relaxed visit. This month Tenerife celebrates the Carnival, something everybody should get to experience at least once in their lifetime. Thousands of people dress up in their best costumes and dance until dawn in a very safe environment.

I could ramble non-stop about my beloved island, but this time I want to show you a spectacular building that hosts a permanent collection of contemporary artists but also very interesting temporary exhibitions.

The building is a masterpiece by Jacques Herzog, Pierre de Meuron and Virgilio GutiérrezSome curiosities about it are that there are 1,200 little windows of  720 different shapes and measurements.

The library is one of the most impressive areas with those cool glass bauble lights and the openness of the space.

Until the 8th of March, you will find an exhibition on Pedro Paricio, one of my favourite painters who has one studio on the island and another one in London. He is one of the most acclaimed Spanish artists at the moment, selling all over the world through the prestigious Halcyon Gallery.

It is an overwhelming experience to see his paintings in a gallery, full of colour and darkness at the same time. But I have to tell you that they impress you more when you see them hanging from a billionaire’s house in Eaton Square (London).

I had the chance to interview him not long ago; you will find the interview HERE.

Don´t miss out the opportunity to visit the museum and the exhibition if you visit Tenerife, and enjoy a very cold local beer on a terrace in La Laguna. You will not regret it!
