One of the “must go” for Christmas shopping in London has to be The Conran Shop. Either in Chelsea or Marylebone, there is always something for every budget and lots of interesting design for nosing around.

One of those little things that caught my eye was a can of sardines, something simple and ordinary. But here is when good design works its magic and transforms an everyday product into something special.

Jose Gourmet selects products from small companies, and they say the don’t argue about the price with their suppliers. So these are not only canned sardines, jars of jam or regular olive oils and spirits; their products are real treats. As such, they have been packed using clever design and carefully displayed so you can buy a wonderful product.

Have a look at my favourite product, the canned fish:

Luis Mendonça was the person responsible for the design with collaborations of some other illustrators.

Arbutus unedo is one of my favourite trees; I didn’t know you could buy jam from its berries.
